Take a peek into any gym and you’ll see any number of people preforming endless sit-ups on their gym mats.  You may wonder why this is a popular exercise, but the answer is pretty clear. Everybody dreams have having a flat, toned stomach and they believe that exercises focusing primarily on the abdomen can accomplish this. Sadly, this just isn’t true.

Belly fat is actually intended to be a quick storage place for your body’s energy (which is gets from fat.) Your belly is an area that is sensitive to stress, exercise and starvation alike, it’s your body’s first choice when it comes to storing fat.

Restricting the consumption of calories and lengthy exercise programs are completely ineffective when it comes to belly fat. A diet would only cause your body’s protection against starvation to kick in, causing it to raise your levels of the stress hormone cortisol.  Cortisol will in turn send signals to the body to store up your belly fat as it thinks you are starving.  Cortisol will actually only increase belly fat, the human abdominals contain 4 times the amount of cortisol receptors as the rest of the body.

Just exercising the ab muscles can not burn belly fat. It’s essential you first get rid of the belly fat which covers your ab muscles, this is why an exercise routine that will burn through body fat is the way to go. It’s also vital to develop a healthy diet so that your body will store less fat while you take advantage of its own fat burning capabilities.

Simply altering how and what you eat can do wonders to burn through belly fat at a quick pace, this will increase your energy which will in turn make your workouts more enjoyable making you feel younger and revived overall. This can have an impact your health many years down the line as well.

The correct workout can flatten your stomach quickly, you want to eliminate the fat before you worry about the muscles beneath it. Before creating a workout plan you need to find which exercise will burn belly fat at the fastest rate for you.

Even if you’ve already built up strong stomach muscles with sit-ups, no one will see those results until you get rid of the flab that’s hiding them. For a truly toned stomach one must work the ab muscles and work to burn fat overall.

If you’re someone who has never before had weight problems but are now suffering from baby belly fat you may be wondering what you can do. It’s normal for women to gain weight during their pregnancy and most of the time this extra weight disappears some time after giving birth. But this doesn’t happen with all women!

Some never seem to lose that weight at all, but it does take effort to make it happen. The longer you let your baby belly fat remain the harder it will be to get rid of down the line.

You shouldn’t try to eliminate your baby belly fat with exercise immediately after the birth of your baby, it isn’t going to work. You may hear in magazines that top models and famous celebrities lose their baby belly fat in just two months after giving birth, but this isn’t common and is certainly not healthy. If you gave birth via a caesarian exercise for up to three months, or even more, is going to be impossible.

If it’s been a year since your baby was born and you’re still having trouble shedding that baby belly fat try a more gradual approach by losing only a pound or two each month. Any slow weight loss is healthier in the long term.

One way in which a woman can avoid weight gain after birth is to stay active during her pregnancy, walking, tennis, golf, any form of light exercise will do. Since a baby means carrying an extra 10 pounds of weight any activity could almost be considered weightlifting! Another option is exercise classes that allow you to take your baby with you and teach you exercises you can do while holding your baby. This can also be a great way for you to bond with your baby.

Once your baby begins moving on its own you’ll definitely get exercise just trying to keep up with it. It’s like exercise you don’t even know you’re doing!
